Beauty and Skincare Herbs And Spices Hiding In Your Kitchen

Sometimes you just don’t feel like visiting the salon to get a facial or maybe you just don’t have the time. With busy schedules crowding our days, it’s hard to find the time to pamper ourselves. Or at a time like this, when we are all in quarantine, the opportunity to visit the salon seems slim. However, this doesn’t mean that your skin needs to suffer.
You may not know it but there are plenty of herbs and spices lying unsuspiciously in your ‘dabbas’ that can help you have a full blown salon experience at home. In this article, we at JMD Medico are going cover some of these and even give you a bonus DIY hack to have to glowing, refreshed skin at home.

The Incomparable Herb

This sounds like some ostentatious, exotic herb that you’ll have to go foraging for in the tropical jungles of Africa, but actually, this is Holy Basil or more commonly known as ‘Tulsi’. Anyone living in an Indian household knows of this herb as a divine one and in recent times, it has become a prime choice to add flavor to many delicacies all over the world. But there is one specialty that you may not know about this plant. It can reverse the damage caused by heat, dust and pollution. It even restores the skin from the effects of chemicals present in makeup and non-natural skin products.

Pro tip
Eat 4-5 leaves of ‘Tulsi’ every day for smooth, tight and young looking skin

Golden Drops of Zafran

No, you absolutely don’t have to go looking far and wide for this spice because it is very commonly used in ‘Biryanis’, curries and traditional desserts. Zafran is simply Saffron or ‘Kesar’ in Hindi. This most coveted of spices doesn’t just beautify the plate but also the face. It contains carotenoids which reduce the number of cancer causing cells present in the skin. It is a great remedy for acne and pimples and protects the skin from harmful UV radiation. It has been used for centuries to enhance the skin’s complexion and has spread its gorgeous golden yellow strands all over the world.

Pro tip
Combine a small amount of Saffron with fresh Aloe Vera gel and apply for a rejuvenating mask.

The Humble ‘Kakdi’

We’ve all relished the juicy cucumber during the humid summer months of India’s tropical climate. You may have added it to a salad or just drizzled it with some salt and chili powder to give a kick of flavor but this vegetable has so many more talents than just being a part of your sandwich. Cucumber skin is full of Silica which is responsible for replenishing collagen in the skin. Slices of Cucumber help to reduce puffiness around the eyes as well as dark circles. It even contains Vitamins A and C that help to soothe sunburn.

Pro tip
To get maximum benefits of Cucumber, order the Furacol-C cream from JMD Medico’s skincare range for amazing results.

And Now for the bonus DIY hack.

Make an easy peasy Vanilla Latte flavored face and body scrub that will leave your skin feeling soft, fresh and smelling yummy. In a small bowl mix some brown sugar, ground coffee and olive oil. Make sure you add the ingredients in proportion to the quantity of scrub you are trying to make. Add some Vanilla essence to the mix and voila! Your Vanilla Latte scrub is ready. Put it into a cute glass jar, add some decorations and store in a cool, dry place.
