Foods to Avoid for Patients Suffering from Piles

If you are suffering from piles, watch what you eat. Here’s the list of food items that can aggravate your condition and cause more pain –

1. Excessive Fibre

Although fibre may help cure constipation; but excessive fibre can cause more problems. Fibre usually increases the bulk of your stool. If you are suffering from piles, you don’t want a bulkier stool. As it will only worsen your condition. A healthy and well-balanced and well-proportioned diet that includes fruits, vegetables, nuts and lean meat can cure the problem.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol dehydrates your body and can cause severe constipation. Drinking a large amount of alcohol not only upsets the digestive balance of your stomach but also makes your stool dry. As a result, stool elimination becomes extremely painful. Avoid drinking more than a glass or two of any alcoholic beverage in a day.

3. Processed Food Items

Processed food items can flare up your condition. Such foods contain lots of salt, unhealthy fats and low levels of nutrients. These result in poor digestion and constipation. Avoid junk food, frozen meals, and packaged sweets. These will only increase your haemorrhoid pain. Moreover, processed food also contains ingredients that promote inflammation; the more inflamed the blood vessels are, the worse is your condition.

4. Spicy Food Items

Stay away from spicy food items until the pain gets better. Spicy food can make bowel movements painful, especially if you have bleeding or inflamed piles. Often, spicy food also results in diarrhoea. This is also very painful during the flare-ups of haemorrhoid.

5. Fried Food Items

Fried food items have high fat content and contain unhealthy oils. Deep-fried foods worsen your condition in two ways. First, fried food is extremely heavy and is difficult to digest. This slows down your digestive system making bowel movements difficult. Second, vegetable oils such as soy, corn, and rapeseed oils are used for frying. These oils damage the intestinal walls.  This can make your haemorrhoids large and painful.

6. Unripe Fruits

While ripe fruit is good for your condition, unripe fruit can increase your pain and suffering. It’s because an unripe fruit is difficult to digest. Most of the fruits that are sold in grocery stores are unripe. So, before buying fruits make sure that it is fully ripe.

When you suffer from piles, you never want to do anything that will make the condition extremely painful. Luckily, there are different Ayurvedic products available that can lessen your pain. It’s also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activities like yoga, exercise, and brisk walking; de-stressing ( you can meditate for an hour in a day); drinking plenty of water; never ignoring the urge to go to the washroom, and last but not the least, avoiding food items that cause constipation.
