High Fiber Food to Eat to Avoid Piles

Irregular bowel movements are one of the most common reasons for piles. And that’s the reason doctors often ask to add fibre rich food to your diet for keeping your digestive tract functional and smooth and to avoid bleeding piles and related complications. Here’s a list of fibre-rich food items that you should add to your meal plans to avoid piles:

1. Whole Grains

Whole grain products such as oats, cereals, rice bran, wheat bran and starchy vegetables such as potatoes and corn are excellent sources of fibre. Replace refined products such as white bread, rice, bread and pasta by whole grain variants. Dietary fibre increases the frequency of stool and helps in relieving constipation and painful bowel movement.

2. Beet Root

Beet roots are rich sources of dietary fibre. Every 100 gm of beet root contain 2.8 gm of dietary fibre. Beet also contains vitamin C. Although, there is no relation between bleeding vessels and piles; however, it is believed that Vitamin C helps in restricting the flow of blood. Also, bet root contains low amounts of saturated fats and are an excellent source of energy.

3. Prunes

Prunes are widely used for increasing stool frequency and for curing bowel disorders. These are an extremely rich source of fibres that add bulk to your stool. This facilitates easy defecation. Moreover, prunes also contain dihydrophenylisatin. This is a natural laxative that relieves painful bowel movement. Also, prunes contain sorbitol, a naturally occurring sugar that draws water into the large intestine, thus softening the stools. This prevents painful defecation. However, do not eat excessive prunes as it contains calcium oxalate crystals. This can cause kidney problems.

4. Apples

An apple a day can keep piles away. It’s because apples are rich in fibre that increases the frequency of stool and also softens stool. This helps in avoiding painful bowel movement. Every 3.5 ounce of whole apple contains 2-3 gm of fibre. Pectin, a type of soluble fibre constitutes about 50% of the total fibre content in apples. Do not peel off the skin of the apples. Eat them too because it’s the major source of fibre in apples.

Include all these food items in your daily meal plans, drink plenty of water, and avoid spending too much time sitting in the toilet. These simple steps will help you reduce inflammation of piles.
